So what if elephants can stand on two legs or a tiger can jump through a ring of fire, have you ever seen a cockroach race or leaf insect swing from a tight rope? Well now you can at the Butterfly Pavilion’s annual Insectival event. It’s an insect carnival on July 10th and 11th. This one-of-a-kind carnival is a celebration of the Butterfly Pavilion’s 15th birthday celebration, so get ready for over two-dozen activities including a bouncy castle, a tie dying station, face painting, balloon twisting, classic carnival treats, a craft station, ladybug releases, and cockroach races. Activities are designed for children ages 2-12, with opportunities to run around on the nature trail or cool down inside. We will also be showing the movie “Ants” while snacking on popcorn.

Feel like learning about all types of invertebrates? Visit the information fair featuring various science and cultural organizations such as the Denver Zoo, Mad Science, Bluff Lake, Morrison Nature Center, SPREE, Chatfield State Park, and The Wildlife Experience.

Don’t forget to visit Dr. Entomo’s Palace of Exotic Wonders, the Butterfly Pavilion’s carnival themed exhibit where the Vietnamese centipede, also known as the “Devil with Two Heads” will shock with its two-headed illusion. The exhibit explores the myths and mysteries of these captivating invertebrates and others. Dr. Entomo’s also includes the “Mini Palace of Wonders” which is designed for children under the age of five.

Want to make it an all day event? Pack a lunch and have a picnic in the gardens and bring plenty of sunscreen and water so the fun can last all day. Insectival is included with admission, with some activities requiring the purchase of tickets. More information and a schedule of events can be found at ww.butterflies.org or by calling 303.469.5441. Or check out the event on Facebook . This affordable, fun, and educational event will be the weekend entertainment for the whole family. So prepare for the wonderful world of insects and all the exotic fun to be had!
